The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God remains forever. Psalm 40:8
God’s word remains forever. Did you catch that? Do you know anything that will remain forever? I love how God compares our humanity to grass and flowers because it really puts everything in perspective.
Last week a young wife and mother of three was killed in an auto accident. It reminded me just how short life is for all of us here on earth. She was a pastor’s wife and I bet she knew something about life by seeing her husband minister to people. To us 32 years is not long enough and we will not fully understand why these things happen until we get to eternity. We think we will have questions, but I believe all questions will be answered just by being in God’s presence.
I love how Peter is quoting Isaiah in 1 Peter 1 starting in verse 22. Peter says to us, now that you have been purified by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. Because you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God. We are able to love one another with sincere, deep love from the heart because we know God. And because we know God and have a relationship with God through Jesus, we are born of an imperishable seed. How beautiful a thought to know that we will last forever with God in eternity just like the word of God. I don’t know about you but this is good news!
1 Peter 1:24-25 For, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.”
